GTI Monthly Mission Brief

The Government Training Institute (GTI) was founded in 2003 to address needs of state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the United States with research based training. GTI's multiple courses contain a cooperative curriculum base and ongoing research from a staff with extensive operational military and law enforcement experience.

An option to assist with agency funding to attend any of GTI's courses or to procure new equipment for the agency is the Asset Trading Program (ATP).

DHS Basic SWAT Training
DHS Basic SWAT Training

The Government Training Institute's DHS Basic SWAT course covers several topics over the 7 days of training. Officers will learn proven dynamic entry and slow and deliberate entry tactics during practical exercises and force on force scenarios. Officers become familiarized with SWAT operations to include: High Risk Warrant Services, Vehicle Assaults, Citizen Team Member Recovery, and Ballistic / Mechanical Breaching. Students receive detailed practical applications in tactical shooting techniques associated with close quarter battle engagements. Students receive a detailed block of instruction on Terrorism, as well as tactical considerations when dealing with a terrorist threat such as improvised explosive devices. Students receive daily physical training to increase their physical performance in SWAT related mission environments.

The DHS Basic SWAT course is currently scheduled for January 13th-19th, 2020 and again May 11th-17th, 2020. Tuition for the course is $1200 per student.

DHS Advanced SWAT Training
Advanced SWAT Courses

The Government Training Institute's DHS Advanced SWAT courses are separated into three levels of training that correspond to the Department of Homeland Security's SWAT Typing Classifications, which is based on the team's equipment and special tactical capabilities, with a Type I team being the best equipped and most capable and the Type II and Type III teams having fewer assets. The first level of training is for the Type III Advanced SWAT Team and the class covers a wide variety of topics including: SWAT Concepts, Equipment Selection, Firearms Selection, Body Armor and NIJ Ratings, Cover and Concealment, Introduction to Terrorism, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Shooting Platforms and SNS Response to Threats, Scouting, Tactical Movements Outside the Structure, Mechanical and Ballistic Breaching, Tactical Angles, Occupancy Control, Alternate Methods of Team Communication, Slow & Deliberate Clearing Techniques, Dynamic Clearing Techniques, Live Fire Practical Exercises, Citizen & Team Member Recovery, Improvised Explosive Devices, Vehicle Assault Techniques, TIC/TOC Operations and Hostage Rescue Operations. The Type II portion of the class adds 3 more days consisting of Rappelling and Tactical Rappelling. The Type I portion adds 2 more days and covers: Close Threat Reconnaissance, Night Vision and Fast Roping.

The DHS Advanced SWAT courses are currently scheduled for a February 17th start and will run into early March depending on the specific level of training selected. Advanced Hostage Rescue Tactics
Advanced Hostage
Rescue Tactics (HRT)

The Government Training Institute's Advanced Hostage Rescue Tactics (HRT) course will teach the operators what an emergency assault team is comprised of, the inherent problems that exist with such a team and the stimulus that provokes a tactical response. Operators will also be exposed to advanced close quarter battle techniques along with clearing techniques involving; hallways, intersections and room entries. During the five day period, operators will be exposed to a building block training method, leading into force on force scenarios. Topics covered during the course include: tactical options for resolving hostage situations, emergency assault team, deliberate assault team, covered pile drill, close quarter battle / dynamic entry / room clearing techniques and hostage and suspect handling.

The next class is March 9th-13th, 2020. Tuition for the 5 day course is $1100 per student.

Rescue Task Force
Rescue Task Force
Hostile Event Interdiction

The Government Training Institute's Rescue Task Force - Hostile Event Interdiction course covers 8 separate modules of instruction delivered over 3 days. The course is the follow up response to a neutralized or mitigated active shooter event, where Law Enforcement students learn to unify with Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services to conduct force protection and set up casualty collection points for medical personnel. The Rescue Task Force - Hostile Event Interdiction course gives students instruction and practical application in the following areas: brief history of active shooter, preparation, guidelines and definitions of hot, warm and cold zones, unified command, unified response and law enforcement force protection and casualty collection points.

The next class is March 17th-19th, 2020. Tuition for the 3 day course is $450 per student.

Close Quarters Battle (CQB)
Close Quarters Battle (CQB)

The Government Training Institute's Close Quarters Battle (CQB): Tactical Entries in a Hostile Environment course is designed around proven principles and tactics for close quarters battle that may be incorporated by Tactical Operators, Narcotic Officers and First Responders. This course develops "problem solvers" using techniques that are proven in hostile situations and dispel common misconceptions associated with close quarters battle. Within the three days of training students will receive maximum amounts of practical applications for conducting close quarters battle. Emphasis will be placed on single/multiple rooms, hallways, stairways and complex structure designs.

The next class is March 23rd-25th, 2020. Tuition for the 3 day course is $650 per student.

Basic and Advanced Sniper Courses

Basic Sniper
The Government Training Institute's Basic Sniper course is an intensive 5 day course which covers an introduction to basic sniper, sniper nomenclature, weapon selection and maintenance, weapon manipulation, shooting fundamentals, ballistics, target engagement, team movement and sniper operations.

The next scheduled delivery for Basic Sniper is March 23rd-27th, 2020. Tuition for the course is $975 per student.

The Government Training Institute's Advanced Sniper course is a 5 day course which covers an introduction to advanced sniper, basic fundamentals, camouflage and tactical movement, final firing positions, observation and field sketching, ranging, wind evaluation, moving targets, barriers, low light firing, angular shooting and long range shooting.

The next scheduled delivery for Advanced Sniper is April 13th-17th, 2020. Tuition for the course is $975 per student.

GTI Legion Classes
GTI Legion Courses

The following courses are scheduled for the remainder of 2019 and offered under our GTI Legion Program, focused on individual marksmanship and the classes are open to all individuals.

The Precision Rifle Training class covers topics needed effectively shoot mid to long ranges. The class will cover equipment, ballistics, range estimation, environmental conditions, and angular units of measure. If you are looking to make ethical shots on game at extended ranges, or just enjoy shooting targets at long range this class will cover all the information necessary. Class is being held December 7th and tuition is $250 per person register online at Precision Rifle.

The extended version of the Precision Rifle course adds a second day with Elevated Shooting. The day is spent in our 135 foot / 10 floor elevated shooting tower that gives our students the opportunity to learn to shoot from high angles. The 2-day version is being held December 7th-8th and tuition is $400 per person register online at Precision Rifle with Elevated Shooting.

For the pistol shooters we have two classes scheduled December 14th and 15th.

On December 14th with have Pistol Marksmanship Training-101 this class is specifically geared toward the handgun owner who is familiar with the operation of their firearm and can safely operate it but they want to develop better fundamental marksmanship skills. In other words, they want to be able to hit what they aim at! It is a slow paced, low pressure skill building class that is suitable for men and women, beginner to advanced level shooters. Tuition is $200 per person register online at Pistol Marksmanship Training.

On the December 15th we have the Home Invasion Response Tactics (H.I.R.T.) class. This training session will provide our students with skills to help defend themselves and loved ones against home invasions, armed intruders, carjacking and other violent scenarios. Tuition is $250 per person register online at Home Invasion Response Tactics.
