The Government Training Institute's DHS Advanced SWAT courses are separated into three levels of training that correspond to the Department of Homeland Security's SWAT Typing Classifications, which is based on the team's equipment and special tactical capabilities, with a Type I team being the best equipped and most capable and the Type II and Type III teams having fewer assets. The first level of training is for the Type III Advanced SWAT Team and the class covers a wide variety of topics including: SWAT Concepts, Equipment Selection, Firearms Selection, Body Armor and NIJ Ratings, Cover and Concealment, Introduction to Terrorism, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Shooting Platforms and SNS Response to Threats, Scouting, Tactical Movements Outside the Structure, Mechanical and Ballistic Breaching, Tactical Angles, Occupancy Control, Alternate Methods of Team Communication, Slow & Deliberate Clearing Techniques, Dynamic Clearing Techniques, Live Fire Practical Exercises, Citizen & Team Member Recovery, Improvised Explosive Devices, Vehicle Assault Techniques, TIC/TOC Operations and Hostage Rescue Operations. The Type II portion of the class adds 3 more days consisting of Rappelling and Tactical Rappelling. The Type I portion adds 2 more days and covers: Close Threat Reconnaissance, Night Vision and Fast Roping.
The DHS Advanced SWAT courses are currently scheduled for a February 17th start and will run into early March depending on the specific level of training selected.
