GTI Monthly Mission Brief
Never Forget

"Never Forget" is a term that no matter where you are brings back vivid images of the fateful September morning. The images of the burning towers and the desperate choices that many of the people inside made to get out are something that no American should ever forget. We watched in horror as our brothers and sisters perished and race, religion and political beliefs were irrelevant because it was an attack on America and we united as one. That day Americans put aside our differences and stood together as a people to face a common enemy and seek justice for those who perished.

It is over 11 years ago now and we have settled into our lives again and it has become something almost like a bad dream or a distant memory. That day was a defining moment in America's history and a day that should still be in the forefront of our minds. A day that should still instill those feelings of a united front; one people with a common goal, yet we are at odds like never before. What has happened to the people that could face any hardship together?

Have we become a society that is so jaded and focused on instant gratification that we can forget something as horrific as this and dismiss it as just something from the past? I have heard more than once in my tenure at GTI, the words, "well I am just glad that I don't live in New York". Why? Is it because you didn't want to be there for that attack; or because it won't happen to you because it will only happen there? The truth is it can happen anywhere and we need to stay vigilant and understand that this threat is not gone. If we live in the state of mind that if I don't talk about it then it will go away, then we are setting ourselves up for monumental failure and a very rude awakening. We cannot let the feelings of that day satiate inside us and we must remain a united people. Race, religion and political beliefs aside; if another 9/11 were to ever happen, wouldn't you want to know that you have millions of brothers and sisters that were there for you and that we as a people would face the threat together? It is very sad that personal agendas have made us a divided people and it took something like 9/11 to bring us together yet here we are just 11 years later and we act as if it never happened.

World Trade Center September 11th, 2001

"Never Forget" is a term that means something to me and always will, and I pray that we as a country will wake up and remember how it felt that day. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with some of Americas finest who everyday go to work to protect our freedoms and I guarantee that they haven't forgotten. Have you?

God bless our officers and service men and women. We are forever in your debt.

Thank you,
Brian Naillon

Transnational Organized Criminals: Seriously affecting the Safety of America
but are they partly responsible for the poor economy?

By Sgt. Lou Savelli, NYPD (retired)

Gangs, Drug Cartels, Human Traffickers, Human Smugglers, Terrorists, Narco-terrorists, new Mafiosos and other criminals operating between America and foreign countries have become the changing face of crime in America. Most likely, you don't have to look much further than your next door neighbor. Criminals who operate in multiple nations are making America their playground and even sponging off the system in more ways than you can imagine. Profits amassed by these dangerous criminals tally to an excess of billions of dollars each year and their violence has become evident on television and in newspapers from cities and towns across the nation. Although most of us are, essentially, immigrants, these offenders give new meaning to the words 'illegal' and 'alien'.

The National Institute of Justice defines Transnational Organized Crime as "Organized crime involving the planning and execution of illicit business ventures by groups or networks of individuals working in more than one country. These criminal groups use systematic violence and corruption to achieve their goals. Crimes commonly include money laundering; human smuggling; cyber crime; and trafficking of humans, drugs, weapons, endangered species, body parts, or nuclear material." NIJ further states, "…Transnational crime ring activities weaken economies and financial systems and undermine democracy."

Transnational Organized Criminals (TOC) are plaguing American neighborhoods across the country at an alarming pace. It is especially problematic in the Midwest where foreign nationals from countries like Somalia, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Southeast Asia, Peru, Bosnia and the Ukraine are immigrating. Of course, the vast majority of these immigrants have come to America in search of an honest and better life but, like most immigrant nationalities, there are always a few bad apples and some of those apples are members of transnational organized criminal organizations. The toll on the US Government and the already weakened local law enforcement agencies tasked to combat these criminals is overwhelming.
