GTI Monthly Mission Brief
An Ounce of Prevention

Brian Naillon
GTI is hitting the spring time at full speed. We have courses and facility usages filling the calendar almost daily and training events from New York to Hawaii on the docket already. This time of year is always busy as everyone starts dusting off the cob webs from winter and starts to ramp up their training schedules. This is typically a time to start the process of training logistics and coordination for the upcoming months.

The relevant reason for me mentioning this is since the changes in our nation's political stance on weapons it is getting increasingly difficult if to get significant amounts of ammunition. The law of supply and demand is in full effect, and as this lingers on, the prices for ammunition continue to climb. I am making specific mention to this to bring to light that we need to be aware of the fact that unless we plan on standing at the range and throwing rocks at the targets, or running through a CQB structure yelling "BANG", we need to plan ahead. Barring the rock throwing and yelling at each other options, this bottle neck is a serious constricting factor to any training utilizing munitions. With this limitation of supply levels, extending the planning phase or your training needs to be considered. We are placing orders as far in advance as we can to maintain an inventory to try and ensure we can deliver the training in the timelines that our clients have come to expect.

The reality of the situation is that it's not showing signs of getting better anytime soon so, if you know your training schedule for the summer, fall or even winter, don't delay in getting with your GTI training coordinator and getting your training event onto our calendar so we can plan ahead. We here at GTI always strive to meet the timelines of our clients and we will do our best to continue doing just that, we just ask that you help us help you and plan ahead. You know the old adage "an ounce of prevention is worth two in the bush" or something like that.

Thank you all for your commitment and sacrifice and for keeping our nation safe. It's because of all of you that we have the honor to do what we do. Be safe.

Advanced SWAT Training

Jason Kemper
In March 2013, Orange County, NY Sheriffs attended GTI's DHS Type I Advanced SWAT course at the Joint Operations Center (JOC). This was the first of three classes from Orange County for the DHS Type I Advanced SWAT course and for some of the students the second time they have trained with GTI. A few months ago Orange County sent 10 students to GTI's DHS Basic SWAT course and they are back for advanced training. For most in the class it was their first time to the JOC and they loved it.

I had an opportunity to film portions of this class and made a short video of the CQB testing, Rappelling, and Night Fire with NVG's. This was a great class and all the Operators were top notch. Thank you for choosing to train with GTI and I look forward to seeing you all in the future.

If you would like information on Advanced SWAT training or any of the courses GTI offers to Law Enforcement please contact GTI Via Phone: 803-259-1935 or Email Us: info@gtitraining.org

Joint Operations Center
The Joint Operations Center (JOC) has quickly become the premier training site for CBRNE and Special Operations teams. The JOC's vast diversity allows a team to fulfill many of their METL requirements in one location. The JOC is truly a one stop shop for training and exercise facilitation. Beyond CQB, rappelling, shooting, advanced driving, breaching, etc., the JOC is a perfect model for full mission exercise covering disablement and characterizations of production scale facilities. Scenarios can be designed to fit SOP, SOW or TTP of an individual team or unit.

Examples of exercises that can be run at the JOC:
  • Chemical agent production or incident
  • Biological agent production or incident
  • Radiological agent production or incident
  • Nuclear agent production or incident
  • Explosive production or incident
  • IED rigged buildings and lanes
