Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 Compact

As many of you may know, two of the most popular striker fire pistols on the market are the Glock lineup and the Smith and Wesson M&P lineup. Both companies are extremely popular as duty weapons for Federal, State, and Local law enforcement agencies across the United States and are well known for being extremely reliable and rugged. In a previous article, I talked about how Glock just recently came out with their Generation 5 Glock 19 and Glock 17 pistols with many new upgrades. Similarly, Smith and Wesson just recently answered the requests of their fans and came out with something new as well.

As many of you may know, Smith and Wesson came out with their 2.0 M&P series and also made some big upgrades to their M&P lineup. Right off the bat, they made major improvements on the trigger, which was a major complaint from their clientele. They also added a more aggressive texture to the frame and added front cocking serrations on the slide. Their new 2.0 lineup is available in 9MM, 40S&W, as well as 45ACP and all are available with or without a manual safety lever. Despite all of the changes and upgrades, one of the major requests from their clients that wasn’t initially answered was to develop a M&P pistol that is the same size as a Glock 19. After listening to their customers, Smith and Wesson finally decided to change that.

Just recently Smith and Wesson announced another addition to their 2.0 lineup; the Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 Compact. This gun is a direct competitor to the Glock 19 pistol with a 4-inch barrel. The M&P 2.0 compact should give the Glock 19 a run for its money. The 2.0 Compact will be available in both 9MM and 40S&W calibers and is equipped with the same great upgrades as the previous 2.0 pistols including a better trigger, more aggressive texture on the frame, and front cocking serrations on the slide.

I personally was very excited to hear about this since I have shot and own a Glock 19 and Smith and Wesson M&P. It will be very interesting to see how the new M&P 2.0 Compact does in a head to head test against a Glock 19. With the price of the new 2.0 Compact being in the same range as a Glock 19, it will make choosing a compact firearm even more difficult. I can’t wait to see what else Smith and Wesson has up their sleeve for the future, and I look forward to seeing how the new 2.0 Compact compares to the Glock 19 in a head to head battle!!
